Not a scent — the presence of a state.
A room in summer daylight, alone. Clean air, some light, cicadas outside, a coffee set down on the table, and a trace of smoke that has only just burned. Awake, at a distance, quietly pleased. Not relaxation, not healing — simply being allowed to stay where you are.
reste
The first is called reste — what is left. Its picture is a room someone has just left: clean air, with a hint of smoke. Three strengths — 01 the lightest, 02 where everything started, 03 the densest.
01 · léger
Clean air, just before anything settles.
The cleanest of the three. Linen and paper, an air you only notice up close.
Pale sandalwood, dry tea, linen and cotton, a trace of unsweet vanilla. No essential oils, no synthetic fragrance.

Clean air, with a trace of soft smoke.
A room someone has just left. Something clean, a little wood, the warmth of fabric.
This is the one we started from.
Sandalwood and pale cedar, dry tea, linen, the powder of rice and iris, the lightest smoke. The ending is left unresolved.

03 · dense
A quiet room, still holding a line of smoke.
The air has a little weight, but stays clean. It lingers an hour or two after the stick is gone.
Sandalwood, dry wood, old tea leaves, a trace of clove and spikenard, a skin-like musk. A little more smoke, still thin.

l'air
Soft wood, dry, almost no sweetness. Lighter than most incense: the first ten minutes are nearly nothing, and you have to be close; each stick burns about twenty-five; once it is gone, the scent stays an hour or two. No top, heart or base notes, no explanation of the scent. The materials are printed only on the back of the box.
porte-encens
An irregular circle in matte, oxidised metal — heavy, and very low. The hole sits deliberately off-centre so the stick leans a little; this is the only designed thing about it. There is no channel for the ash. It falls, and stays where it lands.
Not perfectly aligned, but still in place.
The hole is 1–2 mm to the right of centre. Every one, the same.

Not persuaded, not comforted. The air is only a little different, and you noticed.
It's quiet here. Comfortable.
Nothing was sold to you, nothing taught,
no one asked you to become better.
You simply stayed a while, at ease.
usage
Light it, blow out the flame. For ten minutes there is almost nothing.
It doesn't arrive.
Only when you slow down does the air seem slightly different.
Something you become aware of.
After the stick is gone, the scent stays an hour or two.
It stays.
Until it burns out, nothing needs deciding.
Set it on something that won't burn, away from fabric and paper; while it's lit, don't leave for long.
